Australia and Japan have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to establish an annual Finance Ministerial Dialogue.
The Australian Treasurer, Dr Jim Chalmers, and Japan's Finance Minister, Satsuki Katayama, signed the MoC on 5 October 2026 at the inaugural Australia–Japan Finance Ministerial Dialogue in Tokyo.
The MoC strengthens cooperation between Australia and Japan by setting up annual discussions on:
The MoC strengthens cooperation on economic security and supports closer international collaboration between Australia and Japan.
It will help promote a more stable and prosperous region.
